About Makyrie (and me)

Yo—I’m Sarah Lewis, the person behind Makyrie (MAY-kuh-ree, like a slightly dreamier bakery). By day I’m a web developer. The rest of the time I’m braiding, stitching, hooking, weaving, and following “wait, what if I tried…” all the way down the rabbit hole.

Here’s the thing that makes Makyrie Makyrie: I’m not an expert at any single craft, and I’m not trying to be. My favorite move is cross-pollination—taking a structure or idea from one craft and rebuilding it in another. A Celtic knot becomes a pair of kumihimo-and-wire earrings. A weaving trick wanders into a braid. Most of my “inventions” are honestly just one craft wearing another craft’s clothes—and that’s a thing you can do, too, without mastering either one.

The other thing you should know is my motto: super good enough. If the overall effect works, nobody’s counting your slightly-uneven loops. I’m usually the least afraid-of-failing person in any craft room, and I’d love to lend you some of that. A wonky first try isn’t a failure; it’s just a first try. (My second tries are usually wonky too. We persevere.)

So you’ll find two things here. A Journal, where I share experiments, mash-ups, and enough of the why to satisfy the curious. And Workshops, where—if you’re around San Diego—we make something good together, in a low-key, laugh-a-lot kind of way.

Whether you’ve been crafting for decades or you’re convinced you “aren’t creative” (you are—we’ll prove it), I hope Makyrie becomes a place you like to wander. Let’s try stuff and see what happens!
